Jamie Shaw moved to the Austin area in 2011, coming from the land of St. Louis, Missouri. She is a graduate of Truman State University, in Kirksville, Missouri, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in voice. While in college, Jamie was active in various ensembles, including the elite show choir, the premiere vocal ensemble, and was a soloist for the top jazz ensemble. She also studied piano and received much experience through accompanying music students.
After college, Jamie became a music instructor at Milder Musical Arts in St. Louis. It was there that she gained experience teaching piano, voice, and group piano and singing classes. Jamie also had the privilege to teach a local personality a series of voice lessons on live TV.
Since being in Austin, Jamie has taught voice and piano at Regents School of Austin and is currently the music teacher at Sonshine School and the youth musical director at Tex-Arts. She has also been seen in some musicals around town: Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and 9 to 5.
Although classically trained in both piano and voice, Jamie thrives on teaching all different styles, especially musical theatre. She believes that learning theory, sight reading and ear training in lessons are vital because it will make learning music easier and will produce better, well rounded musicians. She also believes that students who take lessons should love what they are learning and enjoy music as much as she does.
In addition to teaching, Jamie thoroughly enjoys performing, leading worship and hanging out with the coolest guy she knows, Bobby, her husband.
